According to the latest Supreme Court verdict, it is now mandatory for every taxpayer to link their link their Aadhar Card with their PAN . While the deadline for the same has been extended multiple times, it is expected that the current deadline of 31stMarch 2021 will not be extended anymore. You can link your Aadhar with PAN online or even through SMS. However, there are still many people who’ve not been able to successfully link their Aadhar and PAN even after following the correct steps. If you’re struggling with the same problem, here are two solutions that can help-
1. Discrepancies in Details Mentioned on Aadhar and PAN
One of the most common reasons for people not being able to link their Aadhar with PAN is discrepancies in the details mentioned on Aadhar and PAN. For instance, if your name does not exactly match on both, you will not be able to link your cards. As this can be a common problem, the government has introduced a correction facility. For corrections in the PAN card, you can visit the NSDL website. If you want to make corrections in your Aadhar, you can visit the UIDAI website. Here are the steps you should follow-
- Visit the NSDL website and select “Update PAN”
- You’ll be redirected to a page where you’ll have to apply for correction
- A digital copy of the signed documents should be submitted to make the necessary changes
- Once the changes are completed successfully, you’ll receive an email confirmation from NSDL
- Visit the UIDAI website and select “Update Aadhar”
- Enter your Aadhar Number, followed by the security code
- An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number
- Only this OTP is adequate if you only want to make changes to your name
- If you want to change details, like gender, DOB, etc., you will have to upload supporting documents
- For PAN Card Changes
- For Aadhar Card Changes
Once the changes are made to the PAN or Aadhar card, you can then link the two.
2. Offline Linking Through a PAN Center
If you’re unable to link Aadhar with PAN through SMS or online, you can also do it offline by visiting the nearest PAN center. You’ll be required to fill a form and attach copies of your PAN and Aadhar to link both the cards. You can visit the TIN-NSDL website to find a list of PAN centers in your city. But note that while online and SMS linking of Aadhar with PAN is completely free, there is a fee for offline linking.
Link Your Aadhar with PAN Before March 2021 Deadline
