
Your Aadhaar card is now a powerful document that can be used to verify your identity when you apply for many other documents and also when you perform certain government procedures. Since the Aadhar is an electronic form of identity that is on UIDAI’s online database, it is used very conveniently by other government bodies entirely online for verification.That is the reason why Aadhaar linking is required for EPF , NPS , Demat and many other things. This article focuses on linking your Aadhaar for the purpose of Income Tax Returns.From 1st July 2017, under section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, the government has made it mandatory to submit Aadhaar number for the following two procedures:
- For application of Permanent Account Number (PAN)
- For filing filing income tax (ITR) returns .
You can link your Aadhar card for income tax returns quite easily using the following steps:
- Go to the income tax e-filing portal.
- Select ‘Link Aadhaar’ under the ‘Quick Links’ section.
- You will then be redirected to the Aadhaar linking page.
- On this page, you will be required to enter the following details:1) Your Pan2) Your Aadhaar number3) Your name as pon the Aadhaar card.4) CAPTCHA Code
- After entering the details, you can click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ to complete the Aadhaar linking process.
Status of Aadhaar Link Process
You can check whether your ITR Aadhaar Link was successful using the following method:
- Visit the e-filing portal mentioned above and go to the Link Aadhaar page.
- Go to the ‘Click here’ to view the status of your Aadhaar link request.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number and click on ‘View Aadhaar Link Status’.
- You can now see whether your Aadhaar is linked to your ITR or not.
