Popularly known by his stage-screen name ‘Abhishek Krishnan’, the young artiste is a ‘triple threat performer’ (a specialized musical theatre training wherein the actor learns to act, sing and dance to a high standard), having trained under well-known theatre person Barry John and honing his craft at institutes in Birmingham and Dwindle Theatre, Greece. Like a true blue ‘TamBrahm’ (Tamilian Brahmin) he is proficient in Carnatic music topping his credentials with training in ballet, jazz and Western contemporary dance forms. He is also a BSc Honours and has a management degree from Birmingham.
A ‘performing artiste’ as he likes to be known, Abhishek’s foray into the performing arts began as a Class XI student with his first performance in the musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, which “changed my life forever.”
Though the moment of being on stage, being the lead, the spotlight and the audience was a big high.

His parents support notwithstanding, Abhishek wants to be “self-sufficient, to be able to earn money and support myself doing what I do.”“I am not in a stage where I can think of a family and a child. I’m still thinking about myself. If I did not have the support of my family, I would be leading a very hand to mouth existence. But my financial goals…I am not really set on a number, maybe because I have this luxury, the comfort to not to have to put a number to it, but basically to know what I love and what I want to do can earn for me and help me live and thrive and not just scrape through.”With ‘initial funding’, call it a “loan from Dad” plus his own savings, Abhishek’s company The Misfits Co., “provides cross medium content that helps brands align themselves with their communities. Our first product ‘Jhamela’, a microfest is an arts-driven, hyper-local festival, engaging communities with live, experiential and differential content. The intent is to increase accessibility to arts. We are still a start-up and haven’t really been picked up in terms of investments,” he shares.You can gauge his prudence about money and loans when he says, “I am not too pro-loan. That is mainly because of the sense of assurance, security and financial stability I already have where I do not want to be indebted to someone else. When there is a loan to pay back within a certain time, there is a very responsible attitude towards money that is being borrowed.
If I did take a loan from a bank or investor, the decision-making would be different. The pressure to repay the loan would affect the creative output than when I don't have the pressure of having to think about it.
