Aadhaar Card for NRI: Process To Follow

There is a well-defined process for the Aadhaar card application for NRI. Here are the broad steps for Aadhaar enrolment.

  • Step 1: Download the relevant ‘ Enrolment and Update Forms ’ from the official UIDAI website and fill in the necessary details.
  • Step 2: Visit the Aadhaar enrolment centre along with the supporting documents.
  • Step 3: Submit the necessary information and show the documents to the enrolment operator. The operator will return your documents once the enrolment process is completed.
  • Step 4: Collect the acknowledgement slip.

Aadhaar Card for NRI: Details You Need to Share with The Enrolment Operator

The enrolment operator at the Aadhaar enrolment centre will ask you the information needed for issuing the 12-digit Aadhaar number. Here is an indicative list of the details that you will need to submit:

Demographic Information

This comprises mandatory and optional information. You must submit your name, date of birth, gender, address, and email.On the other hand, submitting the mobile number is optional.Please notethat no SMS or text messages will be sent on non-Indian numbers.

Biometric Information

This includes scanning all your ten fingers. Make sure your hands are clean and wash them with water and soap, if needed. Follow the instructions as given and place your finger flat one after the other on the scanner.Your iris will be scanned too. Sit in a fixed position, keep your eyes wide open and look straight into the iris scanner. Don’t blink your eye during the iris capture.Also, you will be asked to sit with your back upright and face towards the camera for a photograph. In case you wear spectacles, take them off before the photograph.

Documents

A valid India Passport serves as your identity proof and is mandatory. If you require an address other than that mentioned in your passport, you will need to submit a valid address proof. Residential Status

As per the Aadhaar Act of 2016, an Indian resident is eligible to get an Aadhaar card. It defines a resident as an individual living in India for 182 days or more in the preceding 12 months.However, with the new Aadhaar Act in Jly 2019, being an Indian who resided for at least 182 days isnotapplicable for NRIs.

Aadhaar Card for NRI: Track Status

The acknowledgement slip that you receive at the Aadhaar enrolment centre bears a 14-digit enrolment number, date, and stamp. You can check if your Aadhaar is generated in these simple steps:

  • Step 1: Visit myAadhaar website .
  • Step 2: Click on the ‘Check Enrolment & Update Status’ option.
  • Step 3: Enter the 14-digit enrolment number. It is mentioned at the top of your acknowledgement slip.
  • Step 4: You may also mention the date and time mentioned on the acknowledgement slip. However, this is optional.
  • Step 5: Enter the captcha code displayed on the screen.
  • Step 6: Click on the ‘Submit’ button.

The 14-digit enrolment number (1234/12345/12345) and the 14-digit date and time of enrolment (yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss) are captured on the acknowledgement slip together to form the 28-digit enrolment ID.In case you have misplaced your acknowledgement slip, you can retrieve the details by clicking on the ‘Retrieve EID/Aadhaar’ option on the myAadhaar website .
