If you want to know about your child’s academic performance, then a quick glance through the latest report card will provide the required information. Similarly, in the world of mutual funds, the Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) is the report card of your investments. If you’ve invested in multiple mutual funds across fund houses, then tracking the performance of every fund can be a challenging and time-consuming process. The CAS offers an instant performance overview of all such investments. Here’s a detailed explanation of what CAS is and its importance-
What is a Consolidated Account Statement?
CAS is a statement that includes detailed information about all your investments held in De-materialized (Demat) format, including mutual funds, stocks, warrants, preference shares, corporate bonds, government securities, and money market instruments. The statement is generated every month and sent to the investors through email.Apart from providing an instant overview of the performance of your investment, it also captures all the transactions associated with your PAN. Thus, for instance, if you've invested in four mutual fund schemes, then the CAS will capture all the transactions such as redemption, purchases, switches, dividend payouts, dividend reinvestments, and SIP/SWP/STP across the four schemes.
How is the CAS Generated?
All your investments in the financial markets are linked to your PAN. The CAS is generated by tracking all the investments and transactions linked to your PAN. The depositories like CDSL and NSDL are responsible for tracking these details. While CAS is sent to investors every month, when there is a transaction in their investment portfolio, they can also access it through the online portals of CAMS, Karvy, AMFI, NSDL, and CDSL. However, no CAS is generated for the months when there are no transactions in the portfolio. Every mutual fund investor is eligible to receive CAS once a month without any fee or charges.
What Information is Included in CAS?
Apart from the financial transactions, the Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) includes details such as-
- Opening and closing balances
- Nomination registration status
- KYC status
- Mode of holding
- UCC (Unique Client Code) for every scheme and portfolio
- ISIN (International Securities Identification Number)
- Registered mobile number
