Documents Required for Aadhaar Card Enrolment and Update

The list of documents required for an Aadhaar Card includes:

• Identity proof
• Date of birth proof
• Residential proof, and
• Proof of relationship

A valid identification proof document must have your picture and name mentioned on it. You may produce either of the following Aadhaar documents list as a valid ID proof:

• Voter ID card

• Ration card

• ATM card with photo
• MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) job card
• ECHS (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme)/CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) card with photo

• Photo certificate on the letterhead of a gazetted officer

You may submit any of the following documents as valid residential proof:

• A valid identity proof which also contains your address
• Passbook/bank statement
• Insurance documents
• Utility bills-electricity/water/telephone
• Post office passbook
• Property tax receipt
• Gas connection bills (not older than 3 months)
• Vehicle Registration Certificate
• Rent/lease/sale agreement
• Domicile certification of caste certificate with a photo
• Marriage Certificate
• Address Certificate issued by village panchayat head for rural areas
• Accommodation allotment letter either by the state or the central government (dated less than 3 months)

You may submit any of the following documents as age proof:

• Birth Certificate
• Passport
• SSC (Staff Selection Commission) certificate
• PAN card
• Mark Sheet issued by a government board or university
• Central pension payment or state pension payment order
• Date of birth letter duly signed by a gazetted officer on their letterhead.

The following documents are accepted as valid proofs of relationship:

• MGNREGA job card
• PDS (Public Distribution System) card
• Passport
• Birth certificate
• Government-issued health card
• Pension Card
• Canteen card for army personnel
• Registered Marriage Certificate
• Family entitlement document issued by the state/central government

The basic list of valid documents for Aadhaar is given above . Depending on your application status, you might have to submit more or fewer documents if asked by the authority.

If you are an NRI who has resided in India for a minimum of 182 days after applying for Aadhaar, you have to submit the following additional Aadhaar Card documents:

• A valid Indian passport- for identification, as well as residential proof
• Documents as listed in UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India)- Birth Certificate, Photo identification proof and School Certificate
• Proof of residence in a foreign country- A stamped copy of the visa of the respective country.

If you are a parent and want to apply for your child’s Aadhaar Card, remember that you must submit different sets of documents depending on your child’s age group. These documents are as follows:

• For children under 5 years of age, the valid document list for Aadhaaris the child’s birth certificate and their parent’s/guardian’s Aadhaar Card. The child’s Aadhaar is linked directly to the parent/guardian’s Aadhaar as biometrics of children under 5 years are not possible.
• For kids aged 5-15, the documents required for an Aadhaar Card are the child’s Birth Certificate, along with their parent/guardian’s Aadhaar number, school identity card, and biometric data—fingerprint and iris scan (to be collected directly by the Aadhaar authority at the enrolment centre).
