AYUSH In-Patient Hospitalization

AYUSH treatments covered in health insurance

While traditional medicines such as Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) were earlier not covered by health insurance policies, the situation has changed since 2013, with some renowned health insurance providers now providing policies that cover these alternative forms of treatment. However, all insurance providers do not provide these benefits, and it is important to check the terms and conditions before signing up for a policy

What is the coverage for AYUSH treatments?

Most policies reserve a certain percentage of the sum insured for covering expenses for AYUSH treatments. To be eligible for a claim, you should have undergone the treatment at a government hospital that is authorized by the National Accreditation Board or Quality Council of India.

Example of AYUSH In-Patient Hospitalization

Sarika, who works as a programmer, suffers from persistent neck and cervical pain due to long hours of working on a computer. She opts for Ayurveda treatment in an AYUSH approved treatment center and the expenses incurred are INR 50,000. Her insurance policy has allocated 20% of sum assured i.e. INR 2 Lakhs as AYUSH cover. Therefore, the policy will cover INR 40,000 while she will have to pay the balance amount of the Ayurvedic treatment, i.e. INR 10,000 herself
