Once we become parents, our primary goal in life is to protect our children from any untoward situation. When they fall ill, aside from the emotional trauma, the cost of treatment might put us in financial stress as well. The reason for this is that children are delicate beings and their treatment demands extra care. There arises a money constraint if the treatment of your child’s medical condition adds to your out-of-pocket expenses. This in turn results in compromising the dreams and aspirations that you had for your little one. Hence, it is imperative that you get a health insurance for your child at the earliest possible. However, you should consider the following points while purchasing health insurance for your kids:

Maternity cover

A newborn baby might not be immediately eligible for health cover as most health plans for newborns have a waiting period of 90 days. So, make sure the mother has an insurance that abundantly covers them both. A plan that covers the well-being of the baby for the first few days of its birth along with the mother during and after childbirth is an ideal choice.

Health cover for newborns

Before a baby is born, it is safeguarded by the healthy atmosphere of the womb from all the ill effects of the outside world. As soon as the baby is born, it is exposed to a variety of disease-causing germs and micro-organisms that can pose threats. Hence, a health cover for a newborn is a necessity that covers the vaccination costs.

Specialized coverages

Standalone child health plans and the family health plans that include provision for a child are alike in providing special coverage for children. These plans cover all pre and post hospitalization costs along with surgery costs, if required. There are some plans that also provide ambulance cover, hospital cash cover and one annual free health checkup for the child.

Including your child in your existing health plan

Apart from taking a separate health plan for your children, you can also include them in your existing family plan. However, you must inform your health insurance provider within 7 days of the birth of your child for a smooth addition.

Post-natal healthcare

Since infants are highly vulnerable to infections and diseases due to their weak immunity, most insurers put a waiting period of 90 days before covering an infant. However, the parents’ health insurance usually covers the expenses incurred for postnatal care of the child.A comprehensive health insurance is a must-have for everybody, including children. Children’s medical expenses may sometimes be even higher than the treatment costs of adults. Taking a medical coverage for the young ones of your family will ensure that your finances are secure and your out-of-expenses are minimal.
