Jigar Mehta, SVP & Head - Innovation
Aditya Birla Health Insurance Company Limited
I believe that Aditya Birla Capital has put in place robust building blocks for leadership development. Ever since I joined the organization over a decade ago, I’ve dabbled in a plethora of different roles – From planning & budgeting and then sales strategy, to being in a financial controller role, working in business intelligence, and finally diving into innovation. Amongst all the milestones, transitions and role movements, one defining phase was when I got to be a part of the ABC Leadership Talent Development Program.
Starting with a module on self-awareness, the program begins in the most fitting manner possible. After all, what’s more important for growth than to introspect and truly identify one’s strengths and areas of improvement? The following module encompasses team management. Learning through expert insights and getting a chance to interact with people who were also aspiring leaders was a learning in itself. A leader is nothing without their team. Which is why I am convinced that formal training is important to help us empower our teams and enable them to reach their full potential. I definitely benefited a lot from this. The third module was centred around business understanding, and the final one was on customer orientation. These elegantly and thoughtfully conclude the program to make it one holistic learning journey.

The entire program is so well-structured and strategically thought-through that it goes into every nuance of what it means to grow into the shoes of a leader. I believe these modules really helped me move from being focused and specialised in my domain to being more widely aware and skilled. The LTDP experience not only equipped me for my role transitions but also gave me the confidence that I could take on newer roles, assume larger responsibilities, and ultimately build a team of competent, successful individuals.
While formalised programs matter a great deal, they are nothing without a larger culture of learning. At ABC, there is a deeply embedded ethos that supports continuous learning and discovery, that gives people the freedom to choose and explore new domains, and that empowers every employee to develop new skill-sets. High investment in training programs and a people-centric approach that gives everyone a chance to grow – I think that’s a potent combination sure to result in individual and organizational success.
Aditya Birla Capital is a great place for young talent to learn, grow, conquer challenges and identify strengths that they did not even know they possessed. What is also important is that the leadership at ABC believes in giving everyone the autonomy to experiment, make mistakes, bounce back from them and surpass new benchmarks every day. It’s a truly enriching environment to be in, and in the fourteen-odd years that I have been an ABC citizen, one thing is for sure – the scope for growth and the freedom to discover are absolutely incomparable here.
